This is how I imagine myself as an American in the near future. Maybe it is because my political awareness has grown exponentially in the last 5 years, but maybe it is truly that the world is going to shit. Freedoms that we hold dear are being obliterated by threats like the NDAA, copyright trolls, Patriot Act, (Kirstaeng v. Wiley) court case, SOPA (and it's variants), and constant crusades against freedom of speech online and in real life; and there are plenty more to list and plenty of other freedoms that continue to be threatened and eliminated.

Sometimes I like to think we've made a lot of headway in recent decades, but at the same time it seems we take one step forward in one area and take two steps back in another. It is overwhelming and I feel powerless to stop the regression. It is a stomach churning experience. America is in my mind, or at least, was supposed to be a beacon of light for the freedom in the modern world; it seems like we haven't been the beacon that I imagined we were when I was in my youth. Ignore is bliss, they say, I could use a little bit of that myself right now. To be that naive again, but I realize that ignorance is exactly why things are they way they are; we can't afford that illiteracy.

I feel envious of other nations, foreign politicians, etc. I see that there are a few that are setting the example that I wish my country should follow, if it only were that simple to just pack up and leave. Who speaks for the freedoms and philosophies of my generation?

Hello everyone viewing anti NDAA art. An important recent petition just started against NDAA's SEC1021 in the Hedges VS Obama calling upon the higher federal courts to rule this provision UNCONSTITUTIONAL!! Please show your support, sign it and spread the word around about this important petition.

Your artist description brings to mind the song 1000 Eyes by the band Death. If you're not into metal it's a metal song that was written by them back in 1995 when the internet was still new to the general public. Yet the lyrics stand out these days, particularly this line:

Plunging into a new found
Age of advanced observeillance
A worldwide, foolproof cage

If you are into metal, this song is on their Symbolic album.

As for what you expressed in your artist description, I agree and I'm 36.

I have been signing petition letters against the cyber bills and have even made phone calls to senators and congressman. So have many others that are members of Credo, Demand Progress, Avaaz,, Access and any other group that is fighting to protect freedoms, human rights, etc.

I'm into metal, for sure, and I've heard of them but don't actively listen to them. Thanks for bringing that to my attention though! Those words ring incredibly true today.

I've done the same as you have, called my senators, etc, and vote/petition, all that stuff. I feel incredibly powerless to stop the madness. Next month, major ISPs begin their copyright crusade against their customers and intend to block all access to websites you regularly visit if they decide that you're posting, viewing, or sharing infringing material.

Despite our cries to the contrary the engine of surveillance and censorship presses on full steam ahead. What can we do?

Sorry for a late reply but here's something else that can be done about it. That's if you don't already know about this website [link] I added my name to it and so did an online friend of mine after I told him about it.
